    When making homemade mayo, you did not use the standard measurement for tablespoons or teaspoons. If you use stainless steel or silver eating utensils each designer and company make their own size spoons, forks and knives. Every cook knows that.

    Thanks, but I'll stick to the microwave for softening my butter. Just set it for a lower power and less time. Especially if you're going to soften only as much as you're going to use. It takes no effort and doesn't create additional dishes to wash.

    You might mention that eggs are stamped in the UK. In the USA, I have never seen a stamped egg. Initially sounds like a good idea for someone who takes a long time to use up their eggs. We love eggs in my house. Even without my late husband (who loved everything I cooked during our 25 years together), just my son and I have a hard time making a dozen eggs last a week. Depending what I make, sometimes 2 dozen. When peeling ginger, only peel as much as you're going to use now. And if you're going to mince or grate the ginger, don't waste your time peeling it. The minced or grated peel is neither unpleasant to eat nor indigestible.

    wow, loved the egg thing. always wanted a way to know if the eggs are still fresh. do you know the science behind it. why do the unfresh ones sink?
    however cooking the egg in plastic is a BAD idea. the chemicals from the plastic will leak into the egg!

    You can do also a float test. If it lays down then it is good. If it stands up, use soon. If it floats with a quarter or less size above the water then you right away. A quarter or larger then throw it away. You can look this up online.
