I attempted to solve this puzzle when I was a kid, maybe 6 years old or so. I remember getting all of the stud blades through, but got stuck on the ribbed blade. I assumed that the notches on the top of the puzzle on all 3 columns were used to fit the ribs through. Probably would have never thought of rotating the puzzle around again!

I buy all of my puzzles. A few companies have offered to send me puzzles for free, but I've never taken them up on their offer, as I want to make sure I'm always talking about the puzzles that I find the most interesting.

For this one, if you search "hanayama cast cricket" on google, you should find a few places to buy it!

  • vanoss gaming 2.0

where do you get these cool puzzles at and how much do they cost?

    • FLEB
      FLEB 2 months ago

My puzzles come from a few different sources. Some are imported, some are bought at private auction, some are from one-off puzzle competitions that only a few teams are invited to/qualify for.

This one is by Hanayama (which renamed recently to BePuzzled?) and is widely available. You should be able to get this one off of Amazon!

Cost is widely variable. Puzzles like this, which are widespread, are usually $10-20, but I've seen some one-of-a-kind-master-craftsman puzzles go for $6+ at auction.

(The "ribbed sections" are actually the bails, not the wickets. They are the same as the two small sections that fit on top of the wicket. These are what you have to knock off in order to get the batsman out)

Hi, Fleb. Before your channel started, I never knew about the amazing world of puzzles. Can you make a video of 'elegant' puzzles? What I mean by that are puzzles where there aren't weird strings and you can lay it flat. They would be able to lay in your room and people might not be 100% sure if it's a puzzle or decoration. Some examples are the hanayama marble and relic.

The ribbed pieces are actually called Bails not Balls. But they do indeed sit on top of the 3 legs. Those 3 legs are known as Stumps. The stumps and the bails together are called the Wickets and this is the target for the bowler.

    • Commando Squeak

    • Ben Hutten-Czapski
      Ben Hutten-Czapski 2 months ago

Razmi Tora it's hard to imagine the process whereby they designed the puzzle... did they start with a geometry then work out a movement and make the modifications to accommodate such as notches etc? or maybe they started with the movement they wanted and designed a geometry that would only allow that curvilinear vector, then embellished it. Or maybe they took existing puzzles and mashed them together...

one way or the other their minds worked in a different way than mine.

multistep puzzle boxes and riddles make sense to me, but I remain fascinated with these peculiar geometries, and I appreciate Fleb showing them to us.
