Yes, deprive millions of healthcare. We'll worry about it when some pandemic happens. Then we'll move quickly to address the problem as we always do. Let states decide what best based on the dollar.

    Mia- Mommy I don’t feel good. I can’t feel my legs.😞
Mommy to Daddy- I don’t know! I feel like I’m losing my baby! *looks down and sighs*… I am losing my baby
Mommy to Mia- You’re going to be alright honey! Everything's going to be alright!
    Mia- Pinkie promise?
Mommy- *smiles* pinkie promise baby girl.
Mommy to Daddy- I feel like I failed as a mother! My baby is fading away in front of my eyes and I have nowhere to go for help! Why her!? Why not me!?
Daddy- It's not your fault. The only thing we can do for her right now is make her smile for one more time.
*Daddy walks over to Mia* Mia hears him walk up to her bed and opens her eyes.
Mia: Hey Daddy! I don’t feel good.
Daddy- You don’t feel good, I know princess. But you know what?
    Mia- What?!
Daddy- Even though you don’t feel good you still look very pretty sweet girl. Do you want me to paint your nails?
    Mia- Sure!
    Daddy- Pink or purple?
    Mia- Pink!
Daddy- Ok baby girl hang on while I get it…
Mia- Ok thank you Daddy I love you!
Daddy- *walks back to Mia's room* *drops nailpolish**jaw drops and tears run down his face*
Mia is in her bed, unconscious. Mia has died. Her life was cut short. She was only 4 years old. She could be alive today, but her family was unable to afford medical treatment. Because of how much money her parents made, Mia lost her life. Situations like this happen every day everywhere. To help children in situations just like this, go to https://www.gofundme.com/3s5efg0

The priority should actually be to GIVE REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN LIVING HELL for betraying the American people and voting for the bill. Senators need to be shown that the consequences of supporting it will be dire, career sucide. Once the Congressmen have been made an example of, threatening Senators with the same will begin to be effective.

The analogy of the kid wanted a cookie is not accurate. In this case the kid wants the cookie and the mom is charging a big price. With the health care problem, people don't want to be sick and the insurance companies are charging them a lot for a illness they didn't want in the first place.

Republicans had basically 8 years to come up with a plan that was better than Obama's ACA and instead spent the whole time bragging about how much better their system would be and complaining about how apparently bad Obama's was. Time finally comes and not only is their bill absolute shit, but it's so bad that there is an amendment that excludes themselves from it. They'd rather stick with the system Obama built for them but they still have to show off and stick the rest of America with the bill that they refuse to let die simply because a democrat made one first.

Well it passed. To hell with what the people want, as per usual. Why do we even have elections? Just put the Fortune 500 in Congress and let the top 50 banks be the Senate lol! (Trouble is there are less than ten banks) Here in the Philippines national health insurance, which covers 80% of EVERYTHING, costs the equivalent of $2.17/month. And the care is better, same fancy tests, more professional and personable. Beyond health care, if you are 60+, there is a senior discount on everything from medicine to hardware to groceries to cab and bus fares to hotel rates to airfares to McDonald's. It's an automatic 20%. But that is because the Philippines is not a backward third world country full of phony Christians, gun-toting sociopaths and adamant ignoramuses like The Land Of The Fleeced And Home Of The Blade is! lol. So long, suckas!

I'm terrified for my parents for when they actually have to have some other form of insurance. This pisses me off.

GOP thinks Obama was the reason for the 19 trillion dollar debt, what they forget is that we spend 2.5 trillion dollar in the Middle East in the last 10 years only to worsen the terrorism problem and have a aging baby boomer population to whom we promised to give social security. This is where the bulk of the debt money is going! HealthCare is only 20% of the debt! Regulate the shit out of pharma and healthcare institutions to lower the cost and you will see a miracle of dramatic reduction of healthcare costs. it is obscene to see doctors and pharma execs making millions at the cost of poor lives! We need more targeted regulations than ever!

On the whole Obamacare failing crap, of course major Health insurance companies want Obamacare to fail, it's cutting into their already huge bottom line. So they make up crap, like they are losing money, and start pulling out of Obamacare to make it seem like it's failing. They do this to try and scare people into being in favor of Trumpcare, thus giving them exactly what they want, which in turn screws over middle and lower class families. I'd also like to note, all the bad parts of Obamacare were put in place by Corporate Republicans and Democrats.

Can we debate the pre-existing conditions clause for a moment? If you have substantial pre-existing conditions and you seek medical insurance, aren't you a bigger risk to that insurance company? It would be no different that having to pay more money for a bigger shirt if you are a bigger person, because more material is required. If we are going to keep the insurance model, for which risk assessment is a necessary cost calculation for proper function, then why should those who are more of needing to use the medical coverage be excluded from paying for that added cost?

Oliver's "cookie" analogy doesn't line up. To make the parallels more accurate, the child, rather than seeking a cookie, would have to be seeking something necessary but not in the form of sustenance, since we are not comparing it to sustenance, but rather treatment of some kind. A more appropriate analogy would be to say that the child needs a large bandage. And upon asking, the mother found out that the cut happened a long time ago, and was much smaller, and the child neglected to get a bandage or treatment at that time, and now that the wound is much bigger, the mother now has drive to the store for a bigger bandage, and therefore the child will have to wait, which to a child is harsh and unbearable. Making the child pay a million dollars is a poor parallel because toddlers neither have money or means of obtaining money, unlike adults. The cookie analogy is the kind of logical fallacy that you would expect from a comedian whose primary goal is to entertain, not to properly educate.

  • Jessica Lee
    Jessica Lee 19 days ago

What a lot of people aren't talking about is: This is not a health care bill. It's a tax cut bill, disguised as a health care bill. That's why it didn't matter to the Republicans what it said in the bill - it said tax cut. Large scale budget stuff like that can ONLY be passed by bills in the House, so they rushed it through the House and now the Senate (which can't initiate financial changes that big on their own) can take their time, pretend they're being "serious" about it, and mess around with it all they want, because the important part, the part they couldn't create, the tax cut, is already in there.

The House Republicans just wrote the Senate Republicans a blank check. That's pretty much what this bill is.

Oh my God... My life would be in ruins if I had to pay for all of my medical issues and being a full time student at the same time... :/ My treatments cost over $20,000 a year, but I live in Denmark so I pay (out of pocket) around $600 - $700 or so a year. I'm really thankful for that.

    • Lemonz1989
      Lemonz1989 19 days ago

+J. Floyd Almost no one pays over $20,000 in taxes to the health care system every year... The total medical system costs around $22.2 billion and covers 5.6 million people. That is in/outpatient treatment, medicine, medical products and equipment, hospital services and research.

Income tax is 37% after you earn $7,760 (which is tax free) and up to 51.59%, while the highest income tax in the US is 52.9%, and you have to pay for education, healthcare and many other services that are covered by taxes here.
I get my education up to a Master's Degree without tuition and a $800 stipend each month after high school, health care with minimal costs, pay security if I lose my job and help in getting a new job or retraining for "free". These are the main things, but you get my point, I hope.
The point being, we get more for our tax $ and the taxes we pay keeps us safe.

You pay a lot more than that when you take into account the taxes you pay.

I see what's going on. All these daily show comedians are trying to pick up the lost credibility from the News networks. That's why all of the comedians from the daily show even though most of them aren't that popular except for maybe to all have TV shows now talking about the news. And how they all hate tromp. Looks like a bunch of left-wingHollywood investors have all counted on these guys to make up the lost credibility from those stupid news anchors who've been proven to be all liars

Because the cost of it is soaring and insurance companies have all but dropped out. Premiums in some states have gone up over 100%.
