I had a huge splinter in my big toe (about 1cm, nothing brutal (1 inch is 2.5cm)) and it healed before I could grab it or anything, and it stayed there... Either I'm going to die because it went somewhere else or my body just assimilated it because it isn't there anymore :D

so very true! last december I built a picket fence out of old pallet wood (worst wood ever, splinter paradise). 2 day project with multiple injuries ranging from self-tapping screw through finger to the common hammer thumb. splinters wasn't even on the pain radar. a week later my fingers and wrists started to hurt, alot. to the point of not being able to use my hands at all. celebrex (arthritis medicine) helped a little. a visit to my GP revealed more than 20 splinters deep, deep in. anti-biotics and a couple of days spent painstakingly pinching out the lot out sorted the joint pain and about a month later I got the last puss filled bugger out with the other sores healed up nicely. HEED THE ADVICE IN THIS VIDEO AND AVOID WOOD SPLINTERS OR GET THEM OUT ON THE SAME DAY THE GOT IN

I left my splinter in, and it was super tiny. A few weeks or days ago, it actually dissapeared, and it was WOOD.

I've once had a large chunk of wood lodged in my foot ; it then formed a strange, almost stairs-like sircular cave-in around it, after which it completely healed. (the wood entirely disappeared)

Fell on a broken 2x4 at a construction cleanup site when i was 18 and was stabbed almost clear through my calf. The ER doctor kept saying they got all the wood out and at the folowup I showed her that i could litterally pinch and manipulate the toothpick sized splinter she'd missed, burried about 1/2" under the skin. She said it was just scar tissue. About 12 years later, my leg got caught in a closing automatic steel door. My hands were full and I couldn't hit the button, but i figured there would be sensors on the door to keep it from slamming shut... There werent. The preasure from the door snapped the splinter into three pieces. One worked it's way out like a porcupine quil. The same doctor that had't believed me ten years ago got another (it was black and slimy and smelled like death), and the other had worked it's way so deep that she said she would do more harm than good going after it. There is still a knot with a 1"x1/16" splinter in my calf, and yes it hurts to jump, run, or squat as it causes the sharp/broken ends to cut out of the knot and into the surrounding muscle. At least digging it out would have left a cool scar.

I had a glass shard in my fingertip for almost a year. It actually hurt quite a bit if I tapped something with it.
Eventually it got irritating enough that it pushed its way out resulting in the cleanest piece of glass I had ever seen.

Well, I got a splinter stuck in my hand a few days ago and my thought process was "Oh, it's too small for me to pull out so I'll just let my skin push it out naturally and then finish the job when enough of it comes out for me to pull it out myself."

    Apparently that's not happening...
