Kobe In 1 Day: What To Do And Eat In Kobe | Japan Travel Guide

1 day Japan travel itinerary guide on what to do and eat in Kobe. Kobe offers much much more than just Kobe Beef!

Kobe is under an hour away from Kyoto and Osaka, so it makes the perfect day trip as well.

Kobe is very well known for their famous Kobe Beef, however this city has much more to offer than just that. In this video let me show you how to travel around Kobe efficiently and visit the must see places in just one day.

1 day in Kobe is enough to see the main areas of the city, however if you want to do more activities like hiking, going to the onsen or more hands on cultural experiences then a few days would be better.

Also, If you have more days to spend here then I definitely recommend checking out more of the local areas and back streets!!!

Things to do in Kobe city, Japan:

JR Shin-Kobe Station
Shin-Kobe Ropeway
Nunobiki Waterfall
Nunobiki Herb Gardens
Kitano District (Ijinkan foreign residents houses)
Sannomiya Station
Steakland Kobe Beef
Nankinmachi Kobe China Town
Meriken Park
Kobe Great Hanshin Earthquake Memorial Park
Kobe Maritime Museum
Kobe Port Tower
Kobe Harborland
Kobe Cruising
Mosaic Shopping Mall
Kobe City Hall 24th Floor Free View

I live in Kobe now, and I tell everyone who visits that Kobe is the "one day city." Everything can be seen/done in a single day haha. Also, I call that Starbucks in Kitano the "Harry Potter Starbucks" because the inside of it reminds me of the Hogwarts Gryfindor common room!

i was at Steakland earlier this month. there is always a long line.

beautiful video! when we were in Kobe we did the short hike to the waterfalls, the track to which is right behind the jr train station, hardly any tourists there, it was very refreshing to be away from the crowds! and the scenery was very beautiful!

Author chongecse ( ago)
What Camera do you use、?

Author Slyko ( ago)
120$ for a shinkansen ride is so expensive for us over here. I was lucky to have that bullet train pass for tourists when i went there but it was still expensive :/

In Europe you can fly around to a far city for less. I think that transportation in Japan is very expensive compared to here in Europe

I just stumbled upon your channel recently, and I'm binge-watching from then.Love everything about your videos and it made me feel like I'm virtually traveling around.Keep up the great work!!

thanks for sharing. good job on all your videos.

The one hour hike up to the herb gardens was really nice! Good exercise and you get to be really close to the waterfall. Unfortunately, I didn't do enough research ahead of time because we went in the afternoon and by the time we got to the top, the garden and ropeway was closed.
I went to a restaurant near Kobe station I think for Kobe beef. Found the restaurant by chance. It was around 10000 yen for a dinner set that came with an appetizer, salad, beef main course with rice, and dessert. It was so delicious!

If your battery is dying at 50% it means it has incorrectly charged and you can't fix it. It happens when you use your phone when charging or it gets too hot and the voltage goes weird with the batter. , and with an iphone you cant replace the battery :/

Author Choo WC ( ago)
it is an informative video, can we get tour guide map to visit such places?

Author Wolf and Raven ( ago)
I just discovered your videos and have been watching a few of them so far. I must say you do a great job on these doing it yourself! Interesting camera footage along with great info. Hope to see more so new sub for you here :)

I live in Rokko which is like a 30 minute drive from Sannomiya and youre right, sightseeing in Kobe for one day is definitely doable. In my honest opinion, theres not many places to go or see in Kobe, other than Harborland and eating Kobe beef (just to say you've had it). Even visting Sannomiya is not really worth it if you've been to or planning to go to Osaka where theres SO MUCH more things to do/see/shop/eat. Also, because Kobe was a major port city, theres a lot of international companies located there compared to other cities and their presence is quite visible. For example, the cars in Kobe are surprisingly full of BMWs, Mercedes, Porsche etc. and its not just because its an affluent area per se, but also because thats just where the cars come from and they're a lot easier/cheaper to get a hold of. My main point is, because Kobe was the main port in Japan that frequently traded with the West, you will not see and experience a lot of traditional Japanese sights or culture, and its also definitely not a "modern" enough city like Tokyo. Its still a lovely city and people here are extremely kind, especially compared to people around Osaka, but if you had to condense the number of places to visit in Japan due to time or money constraints, I suggest crossing out Kobe imo lol

Hi Angela, new viewer and subscriber here. Found your channel when you appeared on one of John Daub's Only in Japan videos. Anyways, love your content. Been to Japan numerous times. Tokyo several times and I've also been to Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima. I enjoyed the Kobe video and the beef looked great although it seemed a little pricey. Well, I appreciate what you do here and I enjoy your really pleasant demeanor. If and when I plan another trip to Japan, I'll definitely use your channel for some research.

Author Zany Hui ( ago)
Hi Angela, thanks for the great video. I would like to ask do you take the Ropeway from Shin-Kobe Station and the Ropeway will lead you all the way to Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens? Next, you went to Kitano Street by walking for about 10mins. So from Kitano Street, did you take a hiking walk back down to Shin-Kobe Station or did you take the Ropeway down? Also, I understand that Kobe is famous with their beef. Does most shop serves chicken/pork/fish + kobe beef as well? Tia!

Thank you for that video. It helped me a lot in my day trip to Kobe yesterday.

Author fuddyduddy ( ago)
Since my last visit to Kobe last year, i visited moriya - which is also a famous kobe beef restaurant. The staff told me (i don't know whether it's true), all kobe beefs over 10000+yen only are made from Japan. Thus, lunch sets kobe beef that below 10000 yen are imported from Australia. I don't know whether your sets are from Australia or Japan since it's different restaurant.

Author Jordi Bcn ( ago)
Really nice video as usual. I m going to Japan for a couple of months to learn japanese and I was thinking of Kobe. But is it fun enough or you risk getting bored...?

Author disciprine ( ago)
I hate to say it but SteakLand is horrible. Their grill is always dirty as you can see in the video and the service is not great. I highly recommend Wakkoqu right outside of Shin-Kobe station instead. Otherwise great videos!

Thank you for your nice video! I visited Kobe in March 2014, and I lived in the Oriental Hotel (the one shaped like a boat). Superb night view from the balcony of the hotel. Kobe is actually my favorite Kensai city so that is why I always check out the videos on Youtube to see how it looks like now. I currently live and work at NYC. Will definitely go back one day!!!

I really liked this video. I'm planning my honeymoon in Japan, and I was wondering if you could recommand blogs/vlogs in Japanese about traveling in Japan? I'm looking for "off the beaten path", traditional, not too touristic stuff. I'm also studying for the JLPT n2 so blogs in Japanese would be helpful. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work.

For a one person vlog, you are without question very talented. I just bought a video editor so I can put up the videos and photos of my 2 weeks in Japan (Nishinomiya, Kobe, Osaka, Omachi, Lake Kizaki, Matsumoto and Karuizawa), but I can see what I have for footage and what you have are much different. Yours look great! Mine kinda stink. But I was in the Harbor area to check out the shops and ride the ferris wheel. I was there during the day and now regret not staying to see the lights at night. This is the first video of yours I have seen. I will subscribe and watch all your work. Looking forward to them all!

Very informative as usual. I have question, my flight arrival is at 7.00 am at KIX airport, probably will arrive at namba around 9.00. (My airbnb host said that I can check in at 11.00) Is there any restaurant that I can enter with luggage? (Suitcase) thanks in advanced.

Lovely city. I actually did almost everything that you showed on the video on my 1-day trip to Kobe as well! I would be interested if you ever have the chance to do something similar for Fukuoka. It's not talked about as much and it'd be interesting to get your opinion on it and hidden spots etc.

Thank you for posting this Day Trip video for Osaka! I also like the fact that you did this on foot instead of taking the bus around the city and provide the time line for where you were at at each location. :)

Author dkb ( ago)
Hi! Can you pls recommend websites or apps that have good reviews or ratings for restaurants in japan? I've heard of tabelog but I can't understand japanese. And it would also be helpful if you could teach us the easiest way to reserve restaurants in japan since the line is usually very long. Thank you!

8:41 I once went to such a weird restaurant where you watch the cook do his job. It's a weirdly gay thing, I felt pretty uneasy. Do you look the guy in the eye, look away while he is heating your food right in front of you? Reminds of those weird japanese hotels I once saw on a youtube video where you can get a prostitute to hug you and use a q-tip in your ears

Great video! Thanks for making it. The only thing I saw on my 1.5 day trip to Kobe that was not listed in your video is the large Tetsujin-28-go statue (Gigantor). It is in Wakamatsu Park which is a short 5 minute walk from Kobe's Shin-Nagata Station.

Author dammbleth2 ( ago)
If it's beef and it's in Kobe, then it's Kobe-beef, right? Angela, would you say that you were mislead about that? A little false advertising, maybe? Feel free to be blunt.

Author Mark Matsuoka ( ago)
Can I make another request? How about Nara? Everyone knows about the deer, but maybe you could talk about the lesser known stuff, such as the guy who is famous for making mochi super fast at Nakatanidou?
