Do these idiots NOT realize that he was playing them for FOOLS? He actually got them to cheer over "we want more government regulations" and "we want higher taxes"---then he let them act like lunatics so that everybody could see them show their true colors. On another source, I heard that they even BOO'ed the PRAYER! Can't they see that they're playing right into the hands of the very people they're trying to shout down? This is hilarious!

U.S. employers are saddled with huge premiums affecting competitiveness (jobs) Seems better for companies to pay lower premiums into medicare to support a bigger pool.

Not-for-profit healthcare is way cheaper. We Brits have free universal cover for 9.9% of GDP. The US pays 16.6% for a worse system.

There is no such thing as "coverage" for pre-existing conditions. That's not how insurance works. That would be more correctly termed a "benefit" or "entitlement" which is paid for by other people, though not voluntarily. Brat might have asked his audience how many want more federal spending programs if they are the ones who will pay for it with additional taxes. He also might have asked how many want more federal regulations if they will pay for them out of their own pockets.

    • Ryan Cox
      Ryan Cox 1 month ago

Dick White, funny I'm looking at my policy right now and it says "benefit." And my group insurance even before the ACA says preexisting conditions are covered. Strange how my premium dollars seem to go to pay for others' pesky healthcare and not me directly. Those goddamn godless commies /snert snert/ *rolls eyes* You clearly have no clue what you're talking about. How's your government run Medicare insurance, old man?

Brat strategically glosses over crucial elements of AHCA that can be most damaging to his constituents, namely States’ rights to opt out of coverage for pre-existing conditions. He also failed to address issues related to Medicaid and covering children with disabilities. Virginia’s recent lack of support Medicaid expansion set a dangerous precedent for coverage of pre-existing conditions in VA.

Your summary was definitely damaging to my brain. It is impossible to get the waiver to get rid of essential health benefits without still have pre existing conditions.

DoDan Swaney that was exactly what they were asking for the Republicans to do all these years, to sit down with the rest and fix what was wrong. but they didn't because they wanted it to fail. This has worked however for people to see what Republicans have stood for all this time they were blaming Obama for everything, they didn't care about the people, they didn't want a plan that works, they wanted the old system back, and Actually with some of the pre-existent conditions they are adding and all the age prices they are going to be charging for it's going to be way worse than how it was before ACA.
At the end the only ones benefitingfrom this would be young healthy men between 20-30. And I say men because with irregular periods, rape, domestic abuse, C-section, pregnancy being added to the pre-existent list they are proposing, most women won't be able to get insured or will be sky high. Also they don't want insurances to be required to pay for prenatal care.

As a middle class worker who has been working away from my family to pay off healthcare costs, the GOP Healthcare plan would cause more hardship on the lower and middle class who are over 40, like myself.

Here's a bulleted list of the items I don't agree should be in it:

      1. Insurers would be able to charge older consumers five times more than younger consumers.

      2. MacArthur Amendment

2a. States could apply for a waiver that allows insurers to charge older consumers at an even higher ratio (Bad)

2b.Allows an individual state to define what basic benefits are through a waiver process. (Bad)

2c. States could waive rules requiring consumers of the same age in the same area to pay the same costs for healthcare. (Bad)

2d. Sick consumers could face higher health care costs if they have a lapse in coverage lasting more than 63 days. (Bad)

      3. People would still receive subsidies, which would phase out at incomes of $75,000 per year (Bad)
      - Subsidies should be given to all Americans equally to give everyone the same healthcare plan and coverage regardless of income.
      - Subsidies should be paid for by:
3a. People who have incomes over $400,000 a year or
3b. People who have Dividends (without counting deductions for losses) over $100,000 a year or
3c. Trusts which have the same payouts above or
3d. Businesses which make over $1,000,000 in profit (without counting losses used to try to escape it and make them budget for it).

      4. Tax Credits are not a good solution to use because they cause delays on getting the money now so it doesn't force people to miss mortgage payments.
      - The ACA did do it right by providing subsidies through billing so the patient wouldn't be as burdened by the medical bill.

      5. Less Insured means higher hospital bills for all
      - Hospitals are struggling and with the GOP bill, there will be an increase in ER visits by uninsured which will never be paid.

      6. Pre-existing Conditions are excluded. (Bad)
      - When I was involuntarily laid off, I had to pay $1300 a month in premiums to keep from having a lapse in coverage so if I got cancer again it would be covered.
      - ACA stopped it.
      - GOP Plan brings it back as a hardship.

      7. Medicaid would be barred from providing funding for any health clinics that provide abortion services, including Planned Parenthood (Bad)

      8. A fixed "per capita cap" or a "block grant" to states for funding (Bad)
      - This will cause people to move to states who provide it and would harm state incomes forcing increased State taxes.

      9. Medical device makers, insurance companies and wealthy Americans would all receive a big tax cut (Bad)
      - This is a major problem when the lower and middle class are the ones suffering.

I would like the ACA to remain and to modify it to fix what is wrong. Such as:
      1. Reduce deductibles to $250.
      2. Reduce out of pocket max to $1,000.
      3. Impose increased taxes on the upper class who make over $400,000 a year.
      4. Impose rules to force the affluent to be measured by their gross incone so they have to budget for it instead of class losses to escape it.
      5. Impose the same rules above on Businesses making over $1 million a year gross income.

To best overcome this, there needs to be bipartisan support or we failed the system of Democracy.

What can you do to help fix the ACA?

Write your Congressman today just like this!
