I feel like the 1930s physique was the proper man's man physique. Lean from actual function and naturally strong, not just some metrosexual trying to force his body to look a certain way.

In spite of the "metrosexual phenomenon" of the last 15 plus years, men (per capita) are still less focused on maintaining a particular look than women are. This is largely because women are less focused on men's appearance, than vice versa. It's like women who get graduate degrees hoping to be able to attract men with the same level of education or more. It doesn't work that way. A man with a graduate degree will chose a woman 'half his age' with only a high school education if she's more physically attractive than a woman with his same level of education, income, status, etc. By the same token, gyms throughout the U.S. are filled with fit "women" who are married to successful men with 'dad-bods', These women work out alongside much "poorer"muscle-obsessed men who can't compete with these women's trophy husbands or boyfriends whose physiques are modest compared to the gym rats'.

1:20 I'll kick your ass if you say the 70s and 80s body is of a bodybuilder like Arnold. That guy has chicken legs, his arms and shoulders are way too big for his narrow chest and back.

I love how these non-lifters love to portray godly physiques they're envious of as hulky and "bulky". No classic bodybuilder EVER looked like that guy. Go check out Frank Zane and Arnold and Serge Nubret. It was quality over quantity; that ugly proportion and bloated look didn't even come until the very late 90s when steroids started to get abused. Every single Olympia and Mr Universe winner was of perfect proportions like Zane and Arnold.

Get your shit right. What's worse about this is that this is made by "tech insider" which just makes ALL tech people look like weak nerds who're ignorant af about lifting and bodybuilding smh.

You should understand the subject better if you want to portray a glorious age of gains le this.

Correction: "How the perfect body for men has changed over the last 150 years, according to a few photographs". I am 99% sure that equal percentage of women prefered skinny, muscular, fat, or balanced in every single era - sexually. Social aspects like wealth should have nothing to do with it. Some women still get the hots for a fatter guy, regardless of salary.

    • Horváth Benedek
      Horváth Benedek 2 months ago

      T. Scott Herd mentality, yes. I'd argue that is not a bad thing, just a thing.
But I think you overestimate the effect of culture and media. There is always a percentage of people keeping up with the trends, but the majority of people usually don't have the time for it.
And if you actually look at the video, you can see a pattern. The one in the 1900s and the current one seems to be similar. In a functioning society, average is the most attractive on average. Being a freak will never be attractive on a global scale.

    • T. Scott
      T. Scott 2 months ago

We're a social species and follow what we're told is acceptable. So if wealthy or famous people tell us XYZ is attractive then we subconsciously get attracted to it over time. Sure, SOME women go against the grain throughout every civilization but they're usually outcast or given odd stares for it. I've seen women have to explain and justify liking shorter guys instead of the now-acceptable tall guys, and still get outcast for it. It's shocking how many people don't realize how much of a herd-mentality species we are.

This is all purely subjective and dependent on one's personal preferences.

For example: I workour regularly and have made a few gains sizewise, but I am around the 1990's physique.
To some, that's not really impressive. To my girlfriend, I have the best body in the world.

Don't freak out or fret ovee how your body is shaped or sized, because men and women find all manner of bodies attactive. Just depends on who you are dealing with. There will always be some who find you disgusting and unappealing, while others will think you are a god.
